This man belongs to the community called 'Rabari'.
'Rabari' is the name given to a group of people who derive their primary business from the rearing of animals for milk. Traditionally they are camel herders, and were once nomadic people. Now a days a very small percentage of Rabari are nomadic. Today rabari's are most prominent in the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
I love the use of the thirds in this photograph as it really evens out the whole image. The depth of field makes the man stand out so much against the backgroung making sure there is nothing there to distract the viewer. The background is really soft where as the person is very sharp, yet not harsh on the eyes.
I feel the red really draws your attention in on his face, which shows alot of emotion. The wrinkles within his face shows he knows a lot, that he has alot of wisdom.
Showing the stick makes it look as if he has somewhere to go, as you are also being shown a long road in the background. He has a long journey ahead of him, but he's determined.
Overall I think this is a beautiful photograph, and that you have captured the atmostphere very well Well done! xx
Am I mistaking when thinking that Rabari are somehow connected with Romani (think I read it somewhere, but can't remember )? Wonderful photo, as most of your gallery, by the way...
